NIC (National Informatics Centre) Ladakh UT Centre was formed in when its two district centres namely NIC District Leh and NIC District Kargil were carved out of erstwhile NIC Jammu and Kashmir State when the state was bifurcated into J&K UT and Ladakh UT on 31st of October 2019. The erstwhile NIC Jammu and Kashmir was established in the year 1988 and by 1989 all the then fourteen districts were covered including the two tribal districts of Leh and Kargil.
Ladakh has become a separate Union Territory as part of Jammu & Kashmir Reorganization Act 2019. NIC has established its UT Centre at Leh in the UT of Ladakh to provide ICT support to the Administration of UT Ladakh by undertaking the development and implementation of a number of innovative e-Governance projects thereby enhancing the Government reach to their Citizens electronically. These e-Governance projects are not only making the lives of the citizen easier by taking government services to their doorsteps, but have also made the administration quick, responsive, transparent, hassle-free, and easily accessible.
These e-Governance initiatives cover the entire spectrum of interfaces – G2G, G2C & G2E. Majority of these initiatives are aimed at bridging the digital divide and to extend the many potential benefits of ICT to people residing in remote and far-flung areas of the state, in particular, to improve their social, economic and cultural well-being of the state.
